A few days ago I visited hazelnut paradise, Cascina Barroero, on a hill a few miles from Cortemilia. Guests told us this is a real hazelnut paradise, so I had to try it for myself.

The winding road brought us higher and higher until we reached this wonderful farm with stone houses and hills covered with hazel.

Camilla, one of the daughters, was waiting for us for a tour around the property. It’s incredible how much there is to learn about these small nuts and it soon became clear she is very passionate about family business.

We got to see the different stages, from the field to the tasty end product. The visit always ends with a guided tasting of their specialties or a hazelnut based lunch.
As true gourmets, we naturally opted for lunch, and we didn’t regret it. Everything was as delicious as it looked like.

Guided tour + hazelnut tasting: 6 euros
Guided tour + lunch (incl. wine, water and coffee): 26 euros
We can wholeheartedly recommend everyone to follow in our footsteps into the world of hazelnuts.
